Race disparities in emergency department utilization: Analyzing the role of value-based payment among Medicare Advantage beneficiaries

There is a persistent trend of Black patients having higher rates of emergency department (ED) encounters compared to White patients in the United States. Moreover, Black patients are more likely to use the ED as a usual source of care compared to White patients, which might reflect barriers to or a lack of consistent primary care.
